Major City in Southeastern U.S. Bolsters Public Safety with Mobile Surveillance

Summary

Project

Mobile Surveillance Trailers in large city in the Southeast
United States

Benefit

  • Solar powered trailers provide surveillance capabilities in areas with limited video coverage to support first responders
  • Integration into the Real Time Crime Center in the Cloud provides multi-agency access to live video footage

A regional commission responsible for helping local governments with community planning in several areas, including homeland security, works with partners to plan the investments needed to secure a better, brighter future. Included in these efforts is the management of an initiative to provide enhanced federal preparedness funding for high-threat, high-density urban areas identified as vital to the nation’s economy and national security. This work includes assisting first responders in strengthening existing capabilities to respond to new and emerging threats. As part of this focus, the organization recently provided counties in the greater metropolitan area with solar powered mobile surveillance trailers to supplement their existing video infrastructure.

Mobile surveillance trailers supplement video infrastructure

Each of the trailers deployed throughout the counties is equipped with three Bosch cameras – two AUTODOME 7100i IR moving cameras with 4K ultra-HD resolution and a FLEXIDOME multi 7000i multi-imager IR camera – along with a Bosch IP-based horn loudspeaker for communication capabilities. The speakers can be used as a tool to help protect the trailer. If the video analytics built-in to the FLEXIDOME multi 7000i camera detect loitering, the trailer's blue light can turn on and the speaker can automatically play a message reminding those nearby that it is a police asset.

While the metropolitan area already has a robust video infrastructure, there are blind spots where cameras are not able to capture video. The mobile surveillance trailers can be placed in those areas, such as when outdoor events are taking place in parks or other locations where there are not as many fixed structures for installing cameras.

Compass joins technology from Bosch Video Systems and Axon Fusus for a powerful solution

Central to the selection of Compass in the procurement process for the fulfillment of this project is the ability of the trailers to support solar power and the company’s close partnership with Axon Fusus – the provider of a Real Time Crime Center in the Cloud (RTC3) already used by several of the state’s agencies for public safety. Each mobile surveillance trailer includes an Axon Fusus Core appliance that connects live streaming video into RTC3, which brings disparate camera systems into a single pane of glass. RTC3 enables public safety personnel from the counties in the greater metropolitan area to seamlessly collaborate when needed to solve issues or crimes.

Compass’ close partnership with both Axon Fusus and Bosch Video Systems enabled a mobile and connected surveillance solution that strengthens area first responders’ capabilities to address new and emerging risks.

“The relationship between Compass, Bosch Video Systems, and Axon Fusus ensures we have the right cameras for the trailers and that the technology pairs seamlessly for fast access through the RTC3. Video can be shared with other agencies through Axon Fusus mutual sharing,” said Thomas Frey, President of Compass. “We make a great trailer, but with the cameras and RTC3 integrations, it becomes a great tool for law enforcement.”

Proving the value of the mobile surveillance trailers, one county budgeted for five additional units, following their initial deployment in the region.
