Manipal Hospital on Old Airport Road in Bengaluru, a flagship facility of the Manipal Hospitals Group, has been a trusted name in multi-specialty healthcare since 1991. Recognized as a Centre of Excellence, the hospital required a robust, cyber-secure solution to protect its patients, staff, and infrastructure—ensuring privacy, operational continuity, and controlled access across its critical care environments.
The need for enhanced healthcare security
In high-sensitivity areas like modular operating theatres and ICUs, maintaining patient privacy and securing access is critical. Manipal Hospital needed a video surveillance system that could not only monitor and investigate incidents but also proactively prevent them—ensuring a safe and compliant healthcare environment.
With the growing threat landscape in healthcare, data security was non-negotiable. The hospital required a solution that met stringent cybersecurity standards—protecting both hardware and software layers. It also needed to maintain full ownership of the system for Manipal’s security team to enforce policies, manage upgrades, and future-proof the infrastructure.
Tailored collaboration for a secure solution
The Bosch team, in collaboration with Manipal Hospital, developed a comprehensive and scalable video security solution tailored to the needs of modern healthcare environments. At the core of the solution is the Bosch DSA E-Series—an iSCSI-based, cyber-secure digital video storage platform engineered to meet the stringent demands of hospital security.
To ensure coverage, cameras were strategically positioned throughout the facility. Among them is the FLEXIDOME IP starlight 5000i, a high-resolution indoor fixed dome camera manufactured in India.
For wide-area surveillance, the FLEXIDOME panoramic 5100i IR delivers seamless 360° coverage, making it ideal for monitoring entrances and sensitive zones. Equipped with built-in IVA Pro Buildings and IVA Pro Perimeter, along with Intelligent Audio Analytics, it enables real-time alerts and rapid incident response.
The AUTODOME PTZ camera enhances situational awareness with up to 256 preset positions, automated Guard Tours, and a powerful 30x optical zoom. Its integrated Essential Video Analytics supports critical functions such as detecting blocked emergency exits, monitoring crowd density, managing queues, and ensuring compliance with health and safety protocols.
At the system level, BVMS provides a modular and resilient platform that consolidates data and presents it intuitively to security personnel. This capability enables operators to make informed decisions, take timely actions, and respond quickly to potential threats.
Bosch's Trusted Platform Module (TPM) technology, combined with the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) used by BVMS, enhances the security of sensitive information. These measures work together to protect patient confidentiality and ensure the integrity of hospital operations.
