PRAESENSA End-Of-Branch Device Enables Supervised Multi-Branch Loudspeaker Lines
Designed for retrofit and replacement projects, compliant with EN 54-16
Consultants, system integrators, and installers working on expansion and retrofit projects increasingly face tree and star-shaped loudspeaker line topologies, as well as existing infrastructures that cannot be looped through but still need to be supervised. Traditional loudspeaker line supervision methods such as impedance measurement are not always reliable and therefore unsuitable for high-safety sites such as power plants and hospitals, where robust supervision is essential.
To enable reliable supervision and fault detection, Bosch has expanded its PRAESENSA IP-based public address and voice alarm system with the End-of-Branch device, developed to support supervised multi-branch loudspeaker lines.
Smarter installations with more flexibility and lower costs
At the heart of the new End-of-Branch device is Bosch’s addressable smart pilot tone handshake technology, which replaces traditional impedance measurement methods. Each device communicates over the existing loudspeaker cable, allowing every branch and even individual loudspeakers, to be supervised without the need to set thresholds or perform calibration. This makes installation faster, simpler, and more reliable, particularly in retrofit projects where cabling routes are often complex or cannot be changed due to remodeling constraints.
The smart pilot tone handshake technology works by emitting a pilot tone that operates above 25 kHz, remaining completely inaudible to human hearing, while maintaining stability across varying ambient temperatures. This ensures consistent performance in demanding or sensitive environments such as hospitals, hotels, offices, or high-safety facilities like power plants.
By enabling multiple supervised branches on a single loudspeaker line, the End-of-Branch offers the freedom to design public address and voice alarm systems with greater flexibility and reduced cabling effort, lowering both installation time and total system cost. The devices integrate seamlessly into new or existing PRAESENSA system’s centralized supervision and are fully supported through the Open Interface API, allowing easy integration and monitoring within third-party platforms.
The End-of-Branch device unlocks exciting new retrofit opportunities, especially for projects with branched loudspeaker topologies that were previously out of reach. It introduces a more flexible design approach and removes key limitations, making it easier to transition from PRAESIDEO to PRAESENSA in many scenarios. To ensure optimal performance and compliance, certain design guidelines still apply.
For now, this innovation marks a significant step forward in making PRAESENSA even more versatile and retrofit-friendly. The result is a more adaptable, cost-efficient, and future-ready solution that keeps installations fully supervised and compliant with EN 54-16 standards. The End-of-Branch device will exclusively operate with PRAESENSA software version 2.40 or higher installed.
With PRAESENSA, the standard in IP-based Public Address and Voice Alarm (PAVA) systems, we provide a PAVA solution offering unmatched quality, longevity, security, and reliability. Bosch will continue to provide regular updates, upgrades, and new product introductions throughout the system's lifetime to keep it up-to-date, future-proof, and state-of-the-art.
